Epic Ways To Teach Kids About Money – At All Stages

Teaching Kids About Money – Progression

Teaching kids about money
Teaching kids about money at all stages

Kids learn at different ages and different stages. With that being said, one important lesson every parent should teach is the power to be in control of money. According to CNBC.com eight out of ten people are in debt in the United States alone.  Moreover, wouldn’t it be amazing if your kiddo was one of the two out of ten that are not in debt?

“Mighty Oaks from little acorns grow.” anonymous proverb

If you teach your child basic money lessons through-out all stages of development, he or she will then be able to handle finances as an adult. Therefore, starting early is the key! Plant the seed and your child’s money IQ will grow. You can begin a solid money foundation with your child. This will be in your best interest because they will not ask you to borrow money!

How early is too early? Children can understand the concept of money at a very young age.  My two-year-old knows that we have to pay for items when we go to the store and he helps me hand our groceries to the cashier upon checkout. Nonetheless,  I was just telling my four-year-old son how much money I have in my retirement accounts and he asked me if I had interest and investors.  Kids are little sponges and they soak up what they hear mommy and daddy talking about. I’m not saying my son really understands what investing is, but he will one day.  Start those conversations and be open about money with your kids.

As you continue reading, this post will give you ideas on how to begin teaching your child about money. You will find age-based examples to help guide you in your money-teaching quest.  Furthermore, I am a former teacher and if there is one thing I love, it is teaching kids real-life skills.

Frugal Fails & Frugal Finds
Frugal Fails & Frugal Finds

Money fails and finds…We’ve all had them.  There are the times when we wanted to save an extra buck or two but ended up spending an outrageous amount. Saving money isn’t always fun. At times, it is down-right difficult.  Not to mention, spending money is more fun, right! I’m with you! However, sticking to a budget, when you are clearly not rich, will help you live a stress-free, happier life.

On the contrary, it is amazing to find money. For example, think of the day you put $10 in your pocket and then put those pants away for the winter. Spring cleaning rolls around and you are $10 richer! Finding extra money is the best feeling.

Yet, coming into money shouldn’t be so arbitrary.  Finding concrete ways to save money will help you in the long-run. (Check out my Budgets 2017 – New Year, New Budget Post for help on this.)

Sharing Our Stories

Today I’m going to share some examples of times I failed at saving money.  Although these were money mistakes, these failures led me to growth.  Hence, a money mistake is never truly a mistake if you learn from it.

Making Money phone apps

Money making apps are becoming extremely popular. Why? Because it is easy to take your phone out and click a few buttons. We do it every day! So why not use your phone as a money-making tool?

In fact, I have found seven money making apps that I keep on my phone at all times to help earn a little extra each month.

Who wouldn’t want extra cash to help pay bills, buy groceries, or like I always do, save for Christmas presents? -Especially when you are earning income for something you already do, like grocery shopping or trying to get rid of unwanted clothing.

Yes, these apps give you extra money for doing ordinary things like uploading a picture of your grocery receipt or clicking a few pictures of your old clothing.

Moreover, I use all of these apps myself and only recommend things I know and love to my readers. So you can rest assured they are legit and will help you add some extra cash to your wallet (or Paypal).

Let’s not forget, these apps are user-friendly and worth your time!  Especially if you are looking for some side money or want to budget for next month’s grocery bill.

Some of the Apps listed below require some work but are by far, my favorite ways to earn a side hustle. And keep in mind the ones that require work are still easy.

So pull out your smartphones and get ready to start earning!
