Best Personal Finance Books
Are you learning about personal finance? Do you need some great book suggestions to help you take your personal finance to the next level?
If you are in debt, learning as much as you can about how to handle your money is key to paying down debt and learning to save.
Maybe you are interested in how to become wealthy. Many people have good jobs and are able to pay the bills, but can’t seem to really get ahead in life. Their money stays stagnant instead of growing. Did you know there are ways to build your wealth with a normal job and start making a passive income to increase your assets?
Getting ahead takes some work, but it is doable. The first step is learning as much as you can about personal finance. And unfortunately, this isn’t taught in most schools. So if you want to learn more, you may have to go out on your own!
Books are a great way to do this. In fact, the average CEO reads 60 books per year. (Fast Company) If you are trying to get your finances in order this year, these books are just what you need to change your money mindset and start building wealth. These choices will walk you through becoming debt-free and teach you how to set up retirement savings and learn to invest the easy way.
Here are my top seven personal finance books to read this year and start making better money moves in your life.

Best Personal Finance Books to Change Your Money Mindset
1.Rich Dad Poor Dad – Robert Kiyosaki
Although this book is older, the information is not and there is a 2017 updated version. It is still one of the best and highly recommended personal finance books out there.
If you are interested in learning what it was like to learn from two different dads with two extremely different perspectives on money and life, then this book is for you. The author was lucky enough to learn two perspectives and you will find out which Dad he listened to and why he is now a “rich dad” himself.
This book helps teach you how to handle money whether you have a small paycheck or not, and how to raise your kids to know how to handle money too.
If you only read one personal finance book this year, this is it! It is truly one of the best personal finance books I have read.
2. Wealthy Barber – Dave Chilten
The author of this book, Dave Chilten, is from my area, Metro Detroit. This book reads like a novel, but gives good money tips and tells the story of how he and others sit around the barbershop, as the barber teaches them how to be rich. You will learn how to “pay yourself first.” as the barber skims a little off the top.
He teaches about investments, real estate, and insurance. You will learn how to build wealth slowly and continue to earn money as your money grows.
3. Automatic Millionaire – Dave Bach
This book begins with a couple earning a modest income but they somehow managed to buy two rental properties and retire early. If you want to become a millionaire and retire early, follow the advice of. Dave Bach. In this book, you will learn how to avoid traditional budgeting by opting to make your money choices automatic and getting rid of your “latte factor” (wasted money).
Find out how to invest your extra money, pay down debt, and build your emergency fund. One thing I like about his book is that Dave Bach recommends specific banks and funds. If you are a complete beginner, it is all laid out for you.
This book has sold over 1.5 million copies and was on the New York Time’s Best Seller List.
4. The Millionaire Next Door – William D. Danko and Thomas J. Stanley
Do you have a millionaire neighbor? You might live next door to a millionaire and not even realize it. Why? Because many millionaires are very frugal. Yet, many people that appear to be rich and showy are in major debt. Learn how many millionaires do not appear to be rich, but this surprising reason is exactly why they have money. This book offers statistics and research-based ways to teach how you can become a millionaire by one of my favorite methods: living frugally.
5. You are a Badass at Making Money – Jen Sincero
Are you ready to take your positive vibes to the next level and learn more about your money worth? Jen Sincero helps you do just that. I read this book on a beach vacation to Cancun and it was just what I needed to kick-start my money mindset. This book is not only funny but insightful. Jen tells her tale of living on little means, to get to where she is today (successful) and offers a few laughs along the way as you see yourself in her story. Find out how to attract what you want, including money.
6. Total Money Makeover – Dave Ramsey
A five-time best selling author, Dave Ramsey knows his stuff. When he talks about money, it is time to drop what you are doing and listen. The reason being, he has helped many people get their finances in order and pay down debt with his widely popular Debt Snow Ball Method.
This book provides the reader with a solid foundation for paying down debt, setting up finances, building an emergency fund, saving, and paying cash. It is worth the read, especially if you are trying to get out of debt.
7. I Will Teach You to Be Rich – Ramit Sethi
This was one of my favorite personal finance reads, as Remit offers detailed steps to help you get your finances in order. Ramit says you can still spend money on all of the things you love because if you follow his methods, you will have money in your “spending account” to do just that.
In this book, you will learn how to set up systems and strategies with your money to help you build wealth and live a life you love. In this book, you will learn how to use credit cards to your advantage, set up a high-yield savings account, and how to save automatically.
He also warns which banks to avoid and recommends safe investments that even a novice investor can start with.
This book is a must-read for anyone seeking to change their financial situation.
