What is Pinecone Research?

Pinecone Research Review

Owned by a company called Neilson based in New York, Pinecone Research is a legit survey company. Pinecone conducts product surveys for large, well-known brands and that is where you come in… To sum it up, they are conducting market research on products for these major companies.  In turn, the company uses the research to help them develop products and decided what products people want and need.

Not to mention, Pinecone Research also gives free product samples in exchange for taking surveys. Yes, you are compensated for trying a new product for free. The icing on the cake… You get paid $3 or 300 points to review the product after testing it. I got to try a few big-named products before they were even on the shelf! What fun!

How Pinecone Research Works

Pinecone Research: Best Survey Site

Pinecone Research is easy to use but I suggest playing around with the site and becoming familiar with it. Sign up as soon as possible because they close registration for long periods of time but they are now open, so this is your chance.

Sign Up for my favorite survey company

When you sign up, you are asked to complete a small demographic survey. During this first interview, be as honest as possible. You will then be matched up with surveys that are easy to answer and suit the needs of the company. For example, if they are searching for opinions from a 40-year-old mother of two that is still using diapers, being as honest as possible will help them set you up for this survey. Perhaps they are conducting market research on a new fast food item and are looking for single people in their 20s – not that all 20-year-olds eat fast food! As you can see, your honesty is very important.

Every few weeks you will receive a “household questionnaire” survey from Pinecone. Although you do not get paid for this survey, it helps match you with paid opportunities. It is important to fill this out if you want the big survey bucks – well, $3 per survey which is big in survey land. You can also opt for gift cards to popular stores such as Starbucks, Itunes, Walmart, Home Depot, and many more. Nonetheless, you get entered into a drawing for $500 for completing the “household survey.”

Here is my moment of Pinecone truth… I actually don’t get surveys from Pinecone anymore and I am very disappointed I got the boot. It is very important to answer all the surveys. If they send you a certain amount of surveys and you don’t fill them out, they will stop sending them. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way. Granted this is one of my favorite survey companies when I started blogging I did not realize the amount of work blogging would entail and I got behind on taking surveys.

Yes, I was laser-focused on my blog, but since I let my surveys slip I no longer receive surveys from Pinecone. No more $3 payouts. No more free products. Don’t let this happen to you! Make sure you are completing your surveys to stay in.

Is Pinecone Research a Legit Company?

Yes, Pinecone Research is a legit company I used for several years. They are owned and operated by Neilson, a research company located in New York.

This company is dedicated to helping improve products, and if you sign up you can become part of that process by sharing your opinions and getting free products from time-time. Sound interesting? Sign up here.

How Much Money Can You Make With Pinecone Research?

I will be the first to tell you, that you will not get rich by taking surveys and this will not replace your full-time job. Yet, it is nice to have some extra fun money at the end of the month and if this is what you are looking for, Pinecone Research may be for you. The most I made in one month was around $30 because I got a $10 survey, which you will qualify for from time to time. You can make more than this if you have more time to dedicate to taking surveys and you can add other companies to your survey list to increase earnings. Here are a few of my other favorites:

Another way I earn money each month is by referring people to two of my favorite rebate apps/websites. You can learn more about them here: Rakuten vs. Ibotta: Which is Better?

or find out more about Rakuten’s referral program here: Does Rakuten Have a Referral Program?

I wrote this post for my blogger friends, but it will give you a good idea if you want to try to promote Rakuten (which did I mention, I love?) and make extra cash.

Here are more useful tips for using Pinecone Research if you are wondering, “How do you Qualify for Pinecone Research?”

  • Sign up now
  • Answer all the surveys offered
  • Answer yes if you want to try products (at the end of the survey)
  • Be as honest as possible and take your time answering questions

Honesty is the best policy even when taking surveys. At times they will throw out a question, just to make sure you are paying attention. If you are rushing through and answering anything, they will know. Honestly, most of their surveys only take around 15-20 minutes so take your time.

Pinecone Research Review: Testing Products

One aspect of Pinecone Research that I love is testing products. It is important when filling out the survey to answer “yes” to the end question regarding whether or not you would like to test a product. You will not get to try every product – and you may not want to…. I said no to the hair color testing – but if you are selected it will be sent right to your house.

I was able to try a frozen food product and received an entire box delivered in a cold package right to my door. After my family sampled the product, I got to log on and answer another survey about it for another $3. I was also able to try a well-trusted company’s package of baby wipes! I mean common on, what mother doesn’t want free baby wipes? Yet, when testing products, you must agree to keep the product a secret due to the fact that many of the products you will try are in the testing phase and are not available to the public. How cool is that?

When testing products with Pinecone Research remember:

  • Follow the directions
  • Complete the testing in the given time frame
  • Do not disclose the product to anyone
  • Fill out the follow-up survey for more money

Is Pinecone Research Safe or is Pinecone Research a scam?

Pinecone Research is a legit survey site. I used it for around two years and took surveys for money. My personal information was safe and I was paid accordingly. I chose the check option and usually received my check in the mail within one to two weeks. Pinecone Research is a trusted company.

Pros of Pinecone Research:

Easy to use

Pineconeresearch.com is an easy-to-use site. In fact, surveys are emailed right to your inbox.

Totally Legit

I used Pinecone research for years and made money completing surveys and testing products. I was always compensated when I decided to cash out and I was compensated with money, instead of gift cards, however that is an option if you choose.

Sweepstakes Drawing

You will be sent pre-qualified survey questions that only take around five minutes to answer. For these short surveys, you are entered into a $500 drawing that happens twice per week. These surveys also help Pinecone Research send you surveys that fit best with your lifestyle.

Pays cash, gift cards, or merchandise

As I mentioned, you CAN be paid in cash but if you prefer gift cards or merchandise this is an option. It is easy to select your payment method and being paid in cash is plus since many survey sites only give gift cards.

Extra spending money (bills, emergency fund, treats)

Although you will not become rich with any survey site, it is nice to have some extra spending cash for bills or treats for yourself. I often save my survey money for Christmas time so I have extra money to spend on family gifts.

Work in your pj’s

Yes, this sounds too good to be true, but Pinecone Research legit and you can work on your couch while in your pj’s. Stay at home and be comfy. Grab your coffee and complete your surveys.

Long point redemption period

You have up to one year before your points expire. So you have time to save them up.

No minimum cash out

Since you have up to a year, it will be easy to cash out since there is no minimum. I like to wait until I have at least $20 or until Christmas time rolls around.

Trying products before they hit the market

This was one part of Pinecone Research I absolutely loved. I got to test a few new food products before they were released. These are the best surveys because you get to answer a survey before you try the product and you are guaranteed another survey after you try the product. So make sure you check that you would like to test the product if it fits with your life.

Cons of Pinecone Research:

Do not get surveys every day

I found one downside of Pinecone Research is you will not get surveys every day. Although this would be nice because their surveys are interesting and easy to complete, you wlll only get around two per week and three if you are lucky. That totals out at $9 per week (unless a longer, higher-paid survey comes your way), but that is still $36 extra per month which is great for sitting on your couch answering questions.

Not mobile-friendly

Since Pinecone research does not have a mobile app yet, you are stuck completing your surveys on your desktop or laptop. I find it easier to complete surveys and read surveys on my laptop, but that is just me. It definitely would have been nice to have a mobile-friendly app while traveling.

Must complete surveys or you will be kicked out

Unfortunately, after I started my blog, I missed several of my survey opportunities. After missing three or four, the company will not send you anymore so make sure you are completing your surveys.

Only one per household

Only one person per household is allowed to use Pinecone Research, so you and your hubby cannot double-dip here.

Bonus: Other Ways I Earn Extra Money

If you are interested in earning extra money Pinecone is a great choice, but the more survey sites or cash back apps you sign up for, obviously the more money you will make. It can add up if you are doing one or two a day. Pinecone Research will only send you one or two opportunities a week, so you will not become rich taking surveys. Still, it is nice to have the extra spending money to treat yourself or save up for gift cards or presents. Nonetheless, here are some other ways to earn extra money online that I personally use:

  • Ebates
  • Ibotta
  • Swagbucks
  • Blogging
  • Inbox Dollars

Check these sites out and sign up for more to help earn more:

Ebates –  Ebates is my favorite money-saving site that rewards you for doing something you already do: shop online. Click through Ebates before you shop online and you will receive a percentage back of what you spent.  How it works: They make money by referring you to shop at a store and then share their commission with you. The best part is it costs you nothing. Also, they have thousands of the BEST stores to choose from including Target, Kohl’s, Best Buy, Priceline, Macy’s, Petco, Bed Bath & Beyond, Groupon, Amazon and so much more. Sign up through my link and receive a $10 bonus just for signing up! Read my Ebates Money-Saving Review here.

Ibotta Ibotta my favorite money-saving app that allows you to receive rebates for stuff you already buy. All you have to do is find your store and search for the available rebates for that week. Once you find your rebates, start shopping. Next, send your receipt by taking a picture and uploading it which is super easy. I suggest doing this right when you get home from the store so you do not forget. It is as easy as taking a simple picture and clicking your rebates! Ibotta has recently added some online shopping to their app as well, so you have more options. Use my link and receive a $10 sign up bonus when you redeem your first rebate! Read more about Ibotta here: Ibotta, Awesome Rebate and Money Making App.

Swagbucks – This is my second choice money-making site. There are so many easy ways to earn money with Swagbucks. You can choose to take surveys you qualify for or earn points by searching the Internet plus more. Redeem points for gift cards for amazing stores, my favorite being Target but Amazon is also an option plus way more. The payout if $5.00 so it is totally obtainable. One reason I love Swagbucks is that it is easy to earn points. You can complete the daily poll, watch videos, sign up for offers, or find Swagbucks codes to earn even more. Sign up for Swagbucks here.

Pinecone Research Review: Conclusion

Although survey sites are great, they are not a way to get rich! You will make a small side hustle and it will be nice to add extra money to your monthly ledger. However, if you sing up for more sites the more you will make. Pinecone Research is by far my favorite of the survey sites. They pay the highest of most survey sites for the amount of time you will spend, $3 for 15-20 minutes of your time. That’s $9 an hour doing easy work from your couch. Not bad!

Pinecone ResearchPinecone is my all-time favorite of all the survey companies. Pinecone Research is a company that pays $3 per survey, most taking around 20 minutes to complete. They also have higher-paying surveys and I have made up to $10 for one longer survey that took around 40 minutes. This is the company that has brought me the highest paying surveys and I have personally made the most money from this survey company than any other survey company I use. Sign up for Pinecone Research and start earning!

Be sure to sign up soon because they will close their doors and there is n telling when you will be able to sign up for their program again. Remember to complete all your surveys, so you don’t get the boot like me! If you have any questions about my Pinecone Research review, please feel free to leave me a comment below!

  1. These are amazing! I love making a little extra and also saving too. Thanks for sharing these websites and apps. Makes it easier!

  2. I havent done surveys but I do love ibotta! How long does each survey take. I guess if you can do a few an hour then it would add up. $3 seems low but I guess coupled with the free products. Maybe email their customer service and ask to be reinstated?

    • Thank you for the comment! Each survey is 15-20 minutes! So you could make around $9 an hour from your couch! Not bad! If you take surveys, you will see $3 is high for what most companies pay! Love Ibotta too!

  3. This is really interesting! I had no idea this existed! It’s good to know that you should sign up when it’s open and they close it after a while.

  4. I’ve never heard of pinecone research before but I’m always down for learning about a money-making opportunity! I will definitely have to check this one out soon!

    • Thank you, Jessica. I would usually spend 15-20 minutes on one survey and if I was lucky enough to get two in one week 30-40 minutes. They also send you household questionnaires which take around 5 minutes to complete. Let me know if you have any more questions!

  5. I’ve been with Pinecone Research for years but have not been able to contact them since Sept, the 28th was last communication. Don’t know what happened I email and get no response.

    • I’m wondering if they sent you any warning emails about completing surveys. This is what happened to me. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t respond to you, but of course, it is good to hear both good and bad about any company. I would suggest trying to contact them on Facebook or Twitter. Maybe you would get a response then. Here is the FB link: https://www.facebook.com/pineconeresearch/ – Best of luck to you!

      • No warning emails, I almost always completed each survey sent, I’ve tried contacting them through Facebook, email & website itself, I can’t get any response. My account is still active, I just can’t get any info, If it’s working for you, great, I enjoyed participating. Good luck to you, but don’t be surprised one day if the cease communication.

  6. I was pretty pleased to find this page. I need to to thank you for your time for this particularly wonderful read!! I definitely enjoyed every part of it and I have you book marked to look at new information on your website.|
